Our mission is is to strengthen ecological stewardship in BC by providing technical, educational, and capacity building resources and fostering partnerships among organizations, groups, governments, and the private sector.

The Stewardship Centre for BC (SCBC) is committed to working with local communities, local governments and the planning and building professions to champion science-based best stewardship practices for land and water in BC. As good stewardship relies on good decision- making, our work focuses on government, land owners, development and business communities. The SCBC Capacity Building Benchmarking Tool is a tool you can use to assist your stewardship organization to support the valuable work you do in your community. Stewardship Series
The informative and widely acclaimed Stewardship Series challenges British Columbians with a new vision: to link human development and natural ecosystems, to focus limited human resources on limited natural resources and to create healthier and more sustainable communities. The Stewardship Series is a roster of 19 guides published over the past 18 years that provides scientific, legal and technical information on protecting BC's natural heritage and implementing stewardship practices particularly in urban and sub-urban areas. Environmental 'best management' practices (BMPs) are those designed to guide activities that promote stewardship of the environment. In addition, guidance, standards, approaches, and principles may all offer advice to people interested in maintaining ecological values. Search a database of best management practices and guidance for those interested in managing land with an emphasis of maintaining or restoring conservation values.

Species at Risk Primer is an easy-to use entry point for people wanting to research and learn about species at risk in British Columbia. It provides basic biological and distribution information in lay terms and provides easy access to more detailed information from the Conservation Data Centre (CDC) and other sources. Local government staff, consultants, landowners, citizens groups, non-profit organizations and students should all find it useful.

Building Organizational Capacity in BC
The aim of our programs is to increase the organizational and volunteer capacity of non-governmental stewardship organizations in BC.

Stewardship Works! Volunteer organizations are the heart, hands and legs of conservation and stewardship across British Columbia and yet core funding to engage, support and recognize these volunteers is not integral to funders' project-based grants. This program examines what small amounts of regular core funding can do on the ground. Learn more about results to date.
